Perceived Travel Safety

Although these markers would indicate that Uganda's outskirts are areas to avoid, Northern and Western Uganda are home to the Mountain Gorillas, a massive tourist draw for the nation. These stunning creatures live primarily in the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a mountain range that extends along the border with Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Primarily though, the warnings for the outskirts of Uganda are due to potential risk of cross-border attacks by rebel groups. Within the yellow regions of Uganda, specifically in and around Kampala, warnings are cautionary due to the potential for theft. Additionally, political tensions have been brewing over the past few years, resulting in a high level of protests, which often turn violent and have caused deaths and serious injuries.

These deterrents though are the external perceptions of the nation, although not invalid, which promotes itself quite admirably through tourist attractions.
