Indonesia A Diverse Culture Discovering Media & Technology
MEDIA Dominant Media Technology
According to the BBC’s country profile of Indonesia, television is the dominant medium in this country. Popular stations include public Televisi Republik Indonesia (TVRI) as well as major national commercial networks. But some provinces also have their own television stations. If I had to predict a change for a future dominant media technology in Indonesia, it would be the Internet. Social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter are heavily used making it the country’s second largest media platform, but I think constant growth could lead to the Internet taking over television. Especially because we see more and more television content being converted to fit the Internet. Another very dominant media technology in Indonesia is the radio, but even with its mass amount of stations, it is not their dominant media technology.
