Indonesia A Diverse Culture Discovering Media & Technology
Analysis 3 Indonesia’s Media Compared
I chose to compare Indonesia to India, because although India is much larger than Indonesia in population and square miles, it is indeed the next largest country by population after the United States. I also thought it would be interesting to compare Indonesia to another country Asia to see the differences and similarities that can be recognized between countries that are geographically closer to one another. I also chose to compare Indonesia to Brazil, because these two countries are very similar in size, but they differ more drastically geographically. I thought it would not only be interesting to see the differences between Indonesia and each of these countries, but also interesting to compare the comparisons because one of closer to home and much larger and the other is farther away but much similar in population. We can draw from these statistics that there are clear connections between a country's GDP, media use and literacy. When looking at India, you can see that with the greatest population and population density, it is the country that has the greatest rural population and seems to lag behind in terms of adult literacy rate and technology purchases and used. While in Brazil, with a significantly higher GDP per capita, they spend more money on information and communication technology. Another stat that cannot be ignored along with this is their adult literacy rate is also higher than the other two countries who spend less. Indonesia seems to have a bit of a different situation where they have a higher GDP than India, but they actually spent less on information and communication technology, they have fewer internet users, but they have significantly more mobile subscriptions and household TVs. However, in contrast to the other observation, Indonesia has the highest adult literacy rate out of all of them. Some explanations for this could be that they have other means of educating their youth, possibly by making more use of television and phones for purposes of education.
