Tajikistan, along with being a young country, has a young population. Fifty five percent of the country's 8 billion people are under the age of 25. The population is also fairly evenly split between men and women; men account for 50.5% and women for 49.5%. The major religions practiced in the country are Sunni Islam (80%) and Shia Muslim (5%), and the largest ethnic groups are Tajik, Uzbek, Kyrgyz and Russian. The unemployment rate was 2.3% in 2013. About 26% of the population lives in urban areas, with 756,143 living in Dushanbe (2012). With 98% of children enrolled in primary school and 83% enrollment in secondary schools, Tajikstan has 99.7% literacy for women and 99.8% for men. Despite being 99.8% literate, 32% of Tajiks live in poverty. The average monthly wage is $227 and Tajikistan ranks 133rd on the Human Development Index with a value of .607. Agriculture accounts for 24.2% of the nation's GDP and engages 66.1% of the population. Principle crops include potatoes, wheat, tomatoes, maize, fruits, sugarcane, silk, rice, millet, jute and cotton. Along with agriculture, Tajikistan's major exports include petroleum, aluminum, coal, crude petroleum and hydroelectric power. Tajikistan's main export partners are Turkey (23.2%), Iran (13%), Afghanistan (10.7%) and Kazakhstan (10.5%). Its import partners are China (46.6%), Russia (16.8%), Kazakhstan (10.5%) and Turkey (5.2%).
