Rewards standings before the bowl games and after them.
Commentary: The Rewards ranking system wasn't all that convinced by #1 Nebraska's extremely lopsided wins over weak teams during the regular season, as it only ranked them as #4 before the bowl games began, with their best wins being only over Missouri (7-4), Penn State (7-4-1) and Oklahoma (8-4). Therefore, even though Miami (F.) defeated the #1 team in the polls in the Orange Bowl (31-30), thereby earning the right to be #1 in the voters mind, Auburn completed the toughest schedule of any division 1-A team with only one loss. Victories over Georgia (9-1-1), Tennessee (9-3), Michigan (9-3), Florida (9-2-1), Maryland (9-3), and Alabama (8-4) offset their only loss to Texas, who also only lost one game (10-9 to Georgia in the Cotton Bowl). Therefore, you will see that Rewards rearranged those teams who finished in the top five in the polls somewhat, and didn't necessarily always place teams as close to where the polls thought they should be as typically has occurred in many other years.
