(The top 25 column is excluded here since the AP and UPI polls do not list any teams outside of the top 20.)
Commentary: With Oklahoma on probation, and ineligible from receiving votes in the coaches poll (UPI), I subtracted one from each of the other team's AP ranking (and the Rewards ranking, both of which had the undefeated Sooners as the top team) to arrive at the values in the table above. Given that adjustment, the top ten teams in both polls were ranked by Rewards in the top ten as well, albeit in a slightly different order. (Not all that different since half of those teams were at most one position different.) Florida was ranked 15th and 12th in the polls, but Rewards placed them at #26 because of four losses, two to teams with records of 6-6 and 6-5. (The highest a team with four losses was ranked by Rewards was #20.) Houston (8-3-1) was only ranked as high as #39 by Rewards because their best win was over Georgia (6-6), however, they were ranked 19th (AP) and 11th (UPI) even though they lost their last regular season game to Tulsa (8-3) which normally is seem by the voters as a significant loss when it occurs so late in the season. However, Houston did earn a tie #10 against North Carolina State in the Bluebonnet Bowl.
