questions:
-
Why do you need
or want to learn PowerPoint (PPT)?
-
After viewing
sample PPT presentations in Task 5 below, discuss a PPT
presentation that you particularly liked and why.
Task 1:
Personal Introductions and
Introduction to YahooGroups:
- You must have a YahooID to access
the Teaching with PowerPoint group. Follow the
instructions at
Getting a YahooID.
You may provide only minimal information, and you can designate any of your
current e-mail addresses to receive mail from our YahooGroup (YG).
- Note the settings when you
register: You have two choices for receiving e-mails from this
group. They are:
-- Individual e-mails
-- A daily digest For more information on what these options mean to you, click on
http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/groups/messages/messages-01.html
You can set your options in our Yahoo Group to one of the above
choices by logging on to
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TeachingwithPowerPoint/.
Click on Edit My Membership. Under Message
Delivery, check either Individual Emails or
Daily Digest. Click Save Changes at
the bottom of the screen.
- Introduce yourself to the group by
posting a message to
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TeachingwithPowerPoint/ Click on
Messages and then Post Message. Tell
us about your teaching background (type of school, learners, areas
you teach; include any online experience), what you are hoping to
gain from this session, and any other personal or professional
information you'd like to share.
- Optional:
Upload your photo to the Photos area of our YG or to
Frappr.com.
Notice our group is set NOT to allow attachments to emails, so
don't send your photo as an attachment to a message.
Task 2: Teaching with
PowerPoint User Survey (skip if already completed)
Please click on the link <http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=452672798744>
and complete the few questions in the survey. This will help
us to determine where extra help may be needed to navigate
Yahoo Groups and with PowerPoint.
Task 3: Read the
Getting Started
information (skip if already completed).
Task 4: Netiquette: Please take time to read the
Guide to Netiquette and to take the short
Netiquette Quiz that follows as well as the "10
Most Dangerous Things Users Do Online". These are very quick
and will inform or confirm some good habits to practice while
participating in this or any online session.
Task 5: Becoming familiar with PowerPoint
- Open the
PowerPoint 2002 Beginning
tutorial and scroll to page 2. Use the information from the
tutorial on opening and viewing the PowerPoint presentation (page
2).
-
Go to the Teaching with PowerPoint YahooGroup, http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TeachingwithPowerPoint/.
Click on FILES on the left. Then open up the folder titled
Sample PowerPoint Presentations -- <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TeachingwithPowerPoint/files/Sample%20PowerPoints/>.
(Note: Be sure you
open the SAMPLE PowerPoint folder and not the MODEL
PowerPoint folder, which we will be using later.)
- Look at sample PowerPoints, download,
and save one that you like or find interesting to share
with the group. What did you like and why (see Discussion
Question above)?
- Look at a model PPT presentation in our
YahooGroup > FILES >
Model PowerPoint Presentations >
Model PPT--Week 1 to see a basic PowerPoint about
the moderators.
Task 6:
PowerPoint Project Think about a PowerPoint project for this session and share
your idea with the group. It
could be a lesson on one of the skill areas or a content area
and should be about 10-12 slides by the end of Week 5. It could also be a project
that your students collaborate on in PowerPoint (PPT).
