Table Legend

Rewards standings before the bowl games and after them.

Commentary: This year is pretty typical for the Rewards system, with many teams being ranked close to where they were placed in the polls. Florida State and Virginia Tech were ranked about 6 places lower by Rewards: Florida State only had one quality win (over 9-3 Notre Dame) though they did have many convincing wins, which is lost, however, on this system since it ignores margin of victory, and Virginia Tech lost to 4-8 Boston College, and they didn't really have any outstanding wins during their season. Miami (Ohio) at 8-2-1 wasn't ranked in the polls, but they were "rewarded" highly by this system since they were the only team to defeat Northwestern except for USC. Toledo went undefeated, tied Miami (Ohio) and defeated 9-3 Nevada in a bowl game, so perhaps they should have been ranked higher than 24th, which is where they ended up in the polls. Ohio State and Northwestern both lost in their bowl games, and it seems like the pollsters pushed them down further in the rankings than where Rewards thought they should be placed.
