(The top 25 column is excluded here
since the AP only list team names outside of the top 20 for those who received
votes, and those teams are listed here as "21T". "21T?" implies that these
teams might have received votes in the UPI poll, since those with less than 39 votes were not listed.)
Rewards standings before the bowl games and after them.
Commentary: Before the bowl games were played, the top 6 in the polls matched what the Rewards ranking system produced almost exactly, disagreeing only on who should be #4 and #5, and likewise after the bowl games were played, where this is a strong correlation amongst the top 8 in the polls and in the ordering generated by Rewards. New Mexico and Tulsa both only lost once, but their schedules were both fairly weak, so they only ended up ranked as #9 and #13 respectively; three teams with three losses ended up above Tulsa, though both teams only received a small number of votes in the AP poll, and didn't make the top 20 in either. (Fresno State also only lost once, but their schedule was even weaker, and so they only placed 22nd in the Rewards ranking, and received a few votes in the AP as well.)
