Commentary: Michigan was ranked a little lower by Rewards (#13) than in the polls (#10) because of its loss to a non-division 1A team (University of Alaska at Anchorage) early in the season. Winning 6 NCAA tournament games did move the Wolverines up to #5, but their 7 losses were enough to keep them slightly below the four teams above them (with 6 or fewer losses). Seton Hall was #11 in both polls (#12 according to Rewards) before they made it to the NCAA Championship game, and finished #6 in the final Rewards poll. NIT Champion St. John's moved up from #82 to #63, and runner-up St. Louis did likewise: #68 to #52. First round NCAA tournament wins by Evansville, South Alabama, Middle Tennessee State and Siena were greeted with a roughly 10 position rise in their final Rewards rankings.
