Commentary: Rewards matched the top five in both polls fairly well this year, and only #9 Michigan was off by +/- 2 with regards to the poll's top ten teams. (Rewards ranked the Wolverines as the #15 team, and at 21-6, only one team had was ranked higher with 6 - or more - losses: the 22-6 Maryland Terapins.) Rewards moved them up to the #11 spot after their 4-1 record in the NCAA tournament, losing to the undefeated Hoosiers (who were #1 both before and after said tourney). VMI, at 20-9, was only ranked as the #121 team according to Rewards, but after going 2-1 in the NCAAs, they moved up to #97. NIT Champion Kentucky (16-10) was #35 before they won those four games, and #30 thereafter. UNC-Charlotte (21-5) lost to Kentucky in the NIT Championship game, and moved up from #24 to #17; they like Kentucky, were not ranked, in either poll before the NIT began.
