Each of these famous Vermonters made many important contributions to our state and to the study of geography.  There are many interesting books and stories about these and other famous Vermonters to read in the school library.  Ask your teacher for some other suggestions.

 

Here are some questions to consider, can you come up with the answers?

1.  As a boy, Zadock Thompson was always studying nature.  Who are some of the people who study nature today?  If Zadock Thompson was living today, what might he be doing for a living?

 

2.  In the 1840's, Abby Hemenway had a great deal of trouble getting help with her project because she was a woman.  How have things changed for women today?  If Abby Hemenway was living today, what might she be doing for a living?
