Scholarly Interests
My current focus is on possible roles for literacy in school and community gardens. Specifically, I am interested in literacy practices that enhance student knowledge about gardening through deliberate use of different forms of text. This area of study builds on the national gardening movement in schools, and focuses on the use of hybrid text (symbols and words) and elements of visual literacy (captions, cross sections, graphs, charts, maps) that are crucial to any elementary curriculum.
