Computer Activity 1 - 100 Square Activities
(Activity #1 on the 'Patterns' page on the 'Interactive Math Activities' page on the 'BSD virtual Math Center' web page)

Task

Make number patterns on the 10 x 10 square. You can make 2 number patterns at a time. One is shown with blue squares and the other with red dots. Make patterns for 2 and 3, 4 and 5, 6 and 7, and 8 and 9. You'll need to clear the screen between each pair of numbers.
How are the patterns the same? How are they different? What can you say about the numbers that have both a blue square and a red dot? Write your answers in the spaces below.

Clue

Look to see if the patterns go across, down or at an angle. You'll notice a difference between the patterns made by even numbers and those made by odd numbers. The numbers that have both blue squares and red dots are multiples of both the numbers you are using. For example with 24, if you are using 2 and 3 you can get to 24 by counting by both 2s and 3s.
