RE: Self-Study
Saint Michael's College has begun the Self-Study process culminating in the visit of a New England Association of Schools and Colleges evaluation team, March 12-15, 2000. The completed draft of the written Self-Study report is due to the President and Provost by October 1, 1999.
This report will represent the concerted description, appraisal, and projected goals of every unit of the College. While our strategic planning is continuous and dynamic, the report will present a picture of Saint Michael's at a particular point in time. It will also relate the status and planning of each area to the 11 Standards for Accreditation of NEASC, while relating all that we do to the Mission of the College and demonstrating our institutional effectiveness, which means that we know our strengths and weaknesses and are acting to address issues.
The Steering Committee of the Self-Study process, under the direction of Dr. Herbert Kessel, is diligently at work. They perform the important coordinating and editorial role in the development of the Report, but each unit will be asked to supply the substance. Shortly, unit leaders will receive a request for their self-appraisal, which will be due after the beginning of the second semester.
These are active, exciting and very busy times at the College, I know. The Committee, the Cabinet, and I greatly appreciate the careful attention we ask you to place on your responses. I have great confidence that we will be able to demonstrate our strengths, address our issues, and use the Self-Study document as a significant part of our ongoing planning.
