Psychology Club
The Psychology
Club was formed in 2005 by members of the psychology department to
provide all students – both our majors and non-majors who have an
interest in psychology – with opportunities to learn more about the
complex field of psychology. The Club was recognized and is
supported by the Student Association and provides educational
workshops which cover a wide variety of topics ranging from “what do
school counselors do and how do you become one?” to “NGI – not
guilty by reason of insanity - who determines this?” The Club
raised money to support causes such as autism research and next
spring we hope to take some of our students to a local elementary
school for Brain Awareness Week and educate elementary school
students about a variety of issues related to the brain, such as why
it is so important for them to wear helmets when participating in
various activities. After a presentation last year by the judge who
is the “gatekeeper” at Bridgewater State Hospital in MA, five
students and the advisor for the Club traveled to Bridgewater for a
tour of that facility at the invitation of Judge Minnehan. This is
a student-run organization with the advisor serving as a sounding
board for their ideas and a resource within the department.
