Saint Michael’s Playhouse (Colchester, VT) is casting its 2010 season.  Season includes: THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE (William Finn, score; Rachel Sheinkin, book; Keith Andrews, dir/choreo.; Rehearsals begin May 31; runs Jun. 15 – 26). AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS (Mark Brown, writer: Kathryn Markey, dir.; Rehearsals begin Jun. 16; runs Jun. 29 – Jul. 10). BLITHE SPIRIT (Noel Coward, writer: Thomas Ouellette, dir.; Rehearsals begin Jun. 30; runs Jul. 13 - 24). ALWAYS...PATSY CLINE (Ted Swindley, writer; Keith Andrews, dir/choreo.; Rehearsals begin Jul. 14; runs Jul. 27 – Aug. 7). Chuck Tobin, producing artistic dir.

Feb. 13 (Dramatic EPA - no accompanist), 10:00am – 1:30pm & 2:30pm – 6:00pm at SHETLER STUDIO, 244 W. 54th St, btwn B’way & 8th, NYC, holding room (room #1203) opens at 9:00am.

THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE – (William Finn, score; Rachel Sheinkin, book; Keith Andrews, dir/choreo.; Chuck Tobin, artistic dir.; Rehearsals begin May 31; runs Jun. 15 – 26). Vice Principal Douglas Panch: male (30s - 50s), Junior High School Vice Principal, announces the spelling bee words to the contestants, the event’s judge. Rona Lisa Peretti: female (30s - 50s), former spelling bee champion, Putnam County Realtor who serves as bee MC/hostess. Actor also plays Olive’s Mom.  Mitch Mahoney: male (30s - 50s), imposing, doesn’t smile, known ironically at school as the “comfort counselor,” ex-convict. Actor also plays Dan, Logainne’s Father and Olive’s Father. Olive Ostrovsky:  female (20s, adolescent character played by an adult), sweet, doe-eyed girl, a word lover, she starts enormously shy and then blossoms. Logainne Schwartzandgrubenierre: female (20s), adolescent character played by an adult), driven by internal and external pressure, has two dads, relatively uncomfortable in body, lisps. Actress also plays Leaf’s Mother.  Marcy Park: female (20s), adolescent character played by an adult), the ultimate over-achiever, speaks six languages, perfection is expected, has countless talents and spelling is just one of them. Actress also plays Leaf’s Sibling. William Barfee: male (20s), adolescent character played by an adult), loud and combative, friendship takes him by surprise, spells on the floor with his magic right foot, one working nostril, touchy personality. Chip Tolentino: male (20s), adolescent character played by an adult), Boy Scout, charming and likeable, reigning spelling bee champion. Actor also plays Jesus. Leaf Coneybear: male (20s), adolescent character played by an adult), from large family of former hippies, makes his own clothes, spells words in a trance, easily distracted. Actor also plays Carl, Logainne’s father.

AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS (Mark Brown, writer: Kathryn Markey, dir.; Chuck Tobin, artistic dir.; Rehearsals begin Jun. 16; runs Jun. 29 – Jul. 10). Seeking versatile character actors with physical agility and excellent facility with accents. Actor 1: male (20s-50s), plays over a dozen roles, including a pompous English gentleman, a Chinese merchant and a cranky American sea captain. Actor 2: male (20s-50s), plays multiple roles, including a bumbling English detective, a young Parsi and a female servant. Actor 3: male (20s-40s), Passepartout – Fogg’s French servant. A former acrobat, constantly finds himself in trouble, loveable, clownish foil to Fogg.  Actor 4: female (20s -30s), Princess Aouda, amoung other roles. Aouda is strong, feisty, articulate and beautiful. She alone beguiles the imperturbable Fogg. Actor 5: male (late 30s – 50s), Phileas Fogg. Eccentric English gentleman. He is fastidious, proper and precise, but capable of deep feeling.

BLITHE SPIRIT (Noel Coward, writer: Thomas Ouellette, dir.; Chuck Tobin, artistic dir.; Rehearsals begin Jun. 30; runs Jul. 13 - 24). Charles Condomine: male (40ish), a novelist. Sophisticated, witty, a skeptic. Ruth Condomine: female (40ish), married to Charles. Down-to-earth, intelligent, composed. Elvira: female (30ish), the Ghost of Charles’ late wife. Glamorous, ethereal, charming and delightfully mischievous. Madame Arcadi: (50s – 60s), an eccentric and oddly flamboyant psychic, matter-of-fact in a truly bizarre way. George Bradman: male (40ish), a practical, skeptical country doctor. Violet Bradman: female (40ish), married to George well-heeled wife, slightly faded and easily flustered. Edith: female (20s) the new maid, intimidated by the Condomines and overwhelmed by her responsibilities.

ALWAYS...PATSY CLINE (Ted Swindley, writer; Keith Andrews, dir/choreo.; Chuck Tobin, artistic dir.; Rehearsals begin Jul. 14; runs Jul. 27 – Aug. 7). Patsy Cline: female (20 – 30) the legendary country singer, compassionate, poised, self-assured, down-to-earth, confident yet occasionally vulnerable.

As a Resident Stock Theatre we look to hire a company of actors to appear in as many consecutive productions as possible. Musicals and Non-musicals may need to share many of the same actors. Actors with disabilities as well as actors of any race, age or ethnicity are encouraged to audition.

Saint Michael’s Playhouse is located in the McCarthy Arts Center on the campus of Saint Michael’s College.

From Burlington: Approaching from downtown Burlington on Colchester Avenue, turn right onto Route 15 at Winooski Center. Follow Route 15 East approximately 1 mile to the Saint Michael’s College – South Entrance.

I-89 North: Exit 15, right onto Route 15 East to the Saint Michael’s College – South Entrance.

I-89 South: Exit 16, follow Route 7 South to junction of Route 15 at Winooski Center. Left onto Route 15 East approximately 1 mile to the Saint Michael’s College – South Entrance.
