The 2010 NEASC
Self-Study On April
11-14, 2010, a group of peer evaluators,
appointed by the New England Association of
Schools and Colleges (NEASC) visited Saint
Michael’s College to assess whether we are
meeting a detailed set of standards required by the
Commission on Institutions of Higher Education (CIHE).
To prepare the College for this evaluation,
President Neuhauser appointed a 2010 NEASC
Self-Study Steering Committee. Through its
subcommittees, the Steering Committee
collected information through individual
self-appraisals from all of the College's
departments, committees, and programs. The
committee also conducted a series of
surveys and interviews that assembled insights and experiences from as
many members of the College community as
possible. The broad-based nature of the
self-study process fostered a
cross-fertilization of ideas and an enhanced
sense of the College's identity.
The Self-Study Report that the Steering
Committee submitted to CIHE in January 2010
described what Saint Michael's College does,
appraised how well the College accomplishes its
goals, and made projections about how we plan to
improve the quality of the College.
Through this web site and Newsletters,
the Self-Study Steering Committee kept the community informed
about the ongoing self-study process. In
addition, the committee shared tentative
findings, drafts and the final Self-Study
Report. In November of 2010, Saint Michael's
received the
2010 NEASC Accreditation
Letter
which confirmed that the institution was
"substantially in compliance with the standards
for accreditation."
The self-study process was a timely one, as it
proceeded in tandem with the College's strategic planning and its image development
initiative. All three have shaped the
administration's plans for the College's next
decade.
We hope that this self-study process was a rewarding
and valuable one for all members of our
community and that it offered all of us
significant opportunities to participate in
shaping Saint
Michael’s for years to come.
