Préparation pour «oral proficiency» en classe, le 18 octobre

Quel temps est-ce qu'il va faire cette semaine?

(Les prévisions de la météo)

We're going to visit a "search engine" which will find the weather predictions for most cities in the world for us -- in French.

How to get there

You're going to a search engine called Yahoo! France. Here's what you can do once you get there:

  1. On the page you see, there is a blank labeled Recherche (Search). Underneath it, you'll find a line listing links to some special services. Click on Météo.
  2. Here you may click on one of the continents or world regions listed.
  3. A list of countries, departments, territories, etc. in that country or region will come on screen. If you click on one of those, the new screen will present the cities available. You may then click on that city to see the weather predictions for it for the next three days.

Task for class

For class tomorrow, be prepared to discuss (with two or three classmates):

  1. The weather predictions for your home town (or one nearby, if it's not available).  "Translate" meteorological terms into conversational ones for  your discussion.
  2. The weather predictions for a city in a francophone country, territory, etc. Look at the maps in your textbook to get some exotic ideas!
  3. Your reactions to the weather in the cities you have chosen, and to others brought up by your classmates.  (Not only approval, disapproval, surprise, etc., but what activities people could or could not do in such weather, for instance.

The above are the criteria that will be used to grade your proficiency (6 points)

Grid to fill out

Here's a grid to help you fill out your information. You may print it out and write on it if you wish.
