Scientific antecedents of psychology

If philosophy is one parent of psychology, then physiology is the other. Physiology contributed a scientific methodology that could be applied to the study of the mind and behavior. Following close on its heels, pscyhophysics lead directly to the birth of the new discipline of psychology. In this section we will examine how the work of some of the early physiologists and psychophysicists contributed to the development of psychology
