The psychology of consciousness

Psychology as a separate area of study began in Europe, particularly Germany and England. Psychology took very different forms in these countries, and both influenced psychology as it spread to the United States. In this unit we will examine the cultural conditions that allowed psychology to begin in Europe. We will also look at the work of those who are considered to be the founding fathers of the field, and we will consider how psychology began to spread to the United States.
