Programs
and Events
The
Journalism and Mass Communication faculty is an energetic bunch,
involved in the creation and collaborative production of a wide
range of events (on and off-campus). Below are a few of our on-going
programs and events.
Speakers:
Each year the Department of JO&MC sponsors and co-sponsors
a wide array of international media professionals, critics, and
policy makers to speak at the College on topics related to media,
arts, politics, technology, culture and global communications.
Recent speakers include Dr. Josh Meyerowitz (Iraq and the Media),
Michael Copps (FCC Commissioner), Bernie Sanders (U.S. Representative),
Dr. Mitchell Stephens (Global Media), etc.
The
Global-Eyes International Study Abroad Photography Competition:
Co-sponsored with the Office of Study abroad at SMC, the Global
Eyes International Study Abroad Photography competition highlights
the best photographic works taken by SMC students from around
the world. For more information on this competition contact Kelly
Cullins (Office of Study Abroad), Dr. Jon Hyde (JO&MC), or
Dr. Kimberly Sultze (JO&MC).
SMC DiGi-Fest: The
SMC Digi-Fest is a Digital Arts Festival put on by the Department
which highlights some of the best short films and animations created
by students at the College. Digi-Fest '03 included
digital film documentaries, advertisements, ad-busters, short
fiction films, ski and snowboard films. All were shot, edited,
and produced by SMC students. For more information contact, Dr.

International Media Study Programs:
Our growing emphasis on global communication not only provides
students with the opportunity to explore the impact of media abroad
during the summer months guided by Journalism faculty. Recent
and planned trips include: Greece, Brazil, India, and the West
Indies.
Interdisciplinary
Programs:
The JO&MC faculty are involved in a variety of interdisciplinarly
programs at SMC. These include Study Abroad, Global Studies, American
Studies, Gender and Women's Studies, Multicultural Affairs, and
MOVE.
