Digi-Tech:
Technology Resources
The
Journalism and Mass Communication Department is innovative and
responsive to our rapidly changing digital media landscapes. We
are a technology-centered major. All JO&MC students have excellent
access to a range of the latest in digital media technologies--computers,
cameras, Hi-Definition DV editing systems, web design programs, etc. Students have the opportunity
to create, innovate, publish and present a range of multi-media
productions both inside and outside of their courses. These resources
include the following:
The
Davis Collaborative Computing Lab:
The Davis Collaborative Computing lab is a state-of-the-art multimedia
production lab housed in the JO&MC Department which allows
simultaneous and collaborative computing (i.e., groups of students
and faculty to work in-synch on individual multi-media projects).
The Davis Lab is home to the Department's award winning online
magazine The Echo.
The Digital Design & Imaging
Lab: Housed in the St. Edmund's Complex, the DDI
lab is another state-of-the-art multimedia production lab. The
DDI lab is dedicated to the production of digital photography,
digital film & TV production, and interactive web-based designing.
Each of the editing systems operates the latest in digital imaging
and new media software (as well as CD and DVD burning systems).
The Bergeron Publications Lab:
Also housed in the Department is the Bergeron Publications lab.
Home to the Defender, this lab serves as a dedicated space for
publication design and production.
Digital Video and Still Cameras
and Editing Systems: The JO&MC Department
is home to a fleet of digital still and digital video cameras
as well as nearly 50 top-of-the-line image DV editing systems.
These cameras, computers, and peripherals are used extensively in
courses such as Digital Photography, Photo Journalism, Digital Film and TV,
and Visual Communication--Phototography, Film, & Television, and
our new media digital design courses.
Additional SMC Computer Labs:
In addition to these dedicated media production labs, students
have access to six computing spaces around campus. All of these
spaces are open and available for students' computing needs.
WWPV
88.7, The Mike:
WWPV is our campus radio station produced and run entirely by
students. WWPV offers an excellent opportunity not only for students
to broadcast weekly radio programs, but also provides the facilities
for radio production.
