Calc III

Challenge Problems

Remember that the work you turn in must be written up beautifully!!!! Please don’t put more than one problem on a page. Make sure the problems are in order and only write on only one side of the paper. Pencil is fine. Please remember to put your name on every sheet and staple it all together.

For the Maplet explorations, you should try all of the suggested functions (and make up some of your own), but you need only turn in the explorations for the three that you feel best illustrate the concepts you are exploring.  Bonus point are available for additional explorations/cool function suggestions.

Yes, the due dates are the same as the lab due dates, and the day before the hour test dates.  I strongly suggest that you do these problems as you do each section, and that you do NOT leave them for the night before they are due!

A couple notes:

The Labs, Hour Tests, and Challenge problems for each chapter are all the same week!   You will not have time to do all the challenge problems that week at the same time you are doing the lab and studying for the test.  Because of this, it is very important to do each challenge problem just as soon as the section is covered!

For 14.3 # 87, the answer in the solution manual at the library has an error in it. The problem is still OK and not any harder. Here is a hint for part d: To show that , use equation 3 with as your function, and .
