GRADING

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION:  Final grades will be based on the following

PAPER:  For the paper, I will ask you to do an in-depth case study using the self information we will have covered in the class.  Further instruction for its preparation is presented on the web page and will be discussed in detail later during the course.  The paper will account for 50% of your final grade.

I will be happy to critique, either verbally or in written form, any rough draft of the paper you may have up until the last class before the paper is due.

EXAM/PRESENTATION OPTION:  Everyone will have a final take-home applied exam at the end of the semester.  However, I’d like to offer the following option to reduce the extent of this exam.

There are a number of topics I have not targeted for coverage this semester that you may find interesting.  Topics such as:

    Relationship & Marriage               Loneliness

Parenting                                      Self-Concept and/or Self-Esteem Development in Children

    Aggression/Abuse                        Shyness

Bereavement                                Stress Management/Health

Shame/Guilt                                 Jealousy/Envy

Hope                                            Forgiveness

What I’d like to offer is the chance for you to select one of these topics, by yourself or with another, to investigate this topic’s connection with the material we will cover in class, and to write-up your findings.  I’d also ask that you quickly present what you have found with the class.  Individuals selecting this option will have a reduced version of the final exam.

The full exam will account for 50% of your grade.  The exam/presentation option will split the percentage into 20/30 for the exam/presentation respectively.  We’ll discuss its details as the semester goes on.

Let me also encourage you to bring questions about readings to class.  If you’d like, you can write down your questions, I will collect them, collate them, and we will discuss them at the beginning of the next class.
