Jerald Swope, Assistant Professor of Journalism and Mass Communication

Jerald Swope, Assistant Professor of Journalism and Mass Communication, received an expense defrayment grant for photographic printing and framing.  Photographs from the framed collection were exhibited in various venues.  For example, thirteen of the photographs from Swope’s “Living in Two Worlds” project about contemporary Lakota life in Pine Ridge South Dakota were included in an exhibit at McCarthy Art Center Gallery.  Professor Swope introduced the photographs at a kick-off event and later hosted two Saint Michael's College anthropology classes for an in-depth discussion.  Publicity generated from this event lead to an invitation to exhibit separate but related photographs in The Traveling Artist exhibit at the Helen Day Arts Center in Stowe in the summer of 2007.  Most recently, a selection of the framed images was displayed at the Center for Cultural Pluralism at the University of Vermont in December 2007 and January 2008.
