The English Department awards three prizes for excellence in writing:

• The George LaHage Award, for outstanding achievement in nonfiction prose (creative or scholarly).
• A Creative Writing Award for exceptional work in poetry.
• A Creative Writing Award for exceptional work in prose.

Winners are chosen each spring from writing nominated by English Department faculty; their names will be inscribed on a plaque to be displayed in St. Edmund's Hall. These awards are open to all classes and majors; the Department may withhold any award, if nominations are not of sufficient quality.

The English Department also presents the annual Senior English Major Award to the graduating English major deemed the best of his/her class.
