Minutes of EdTech from Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003

10:00-11:00AM, STE 361

Attending: Mike Battig and David Boynton

ad officio members: Susan Breeyear, Joanne Schneider, and Sandy Karstens.

1.  The minutes from 9/16 were approved, and David Boynton agreed to be scribe.

2.   The committee discussed the details of this year’s Call for Proposals. Mike placed the original proposals from last year, together with the reports from the participants in the public folders. The Call for Proposals will reference these items, materials from the PEW grant project, and descriptions of the project types contained in last year’s Call. Joanne mentioned that the summary of the executive reports should appear in the Call. The Call should make the Other People’s Content category clearer that it was in last year’s call, perhaps by discussing the need to consider integration of available materials to enhance student learning. We are most interesting in this category, because the committee feels that we have a fair handle on what happens with the other types.

3.   Three of the four Executive Summaries along with the original Proposals have already been placed in the public folder. (Go to All Public Folders, then Faculty Assembly, and then EDTECH.) Also, members have received a copy of last year’s Call for Proposals for reference.

4.   Action item: Mike will follow up on the question of the fourth member of the Ed Tech committee.

5.   Other Business/Updates: There is a question as to who the fourth committee member is. Joanna Ellis-Monaghan was replaced by Cathy Hurst. Mike suggested that Joanna be switched back. There may have been a mix up (Father Joe for Jo), however.  [Follow-up:  Mike confirmed later in the day that Father Joe McLaughlin is indeed now on the EdTech Committee for the year]

There is a conference to be held at Cambridge on Technology, Learning, and Intellectual Development.

Mike mentioned that he still hasn’t heard from Christine regarding her summary.

6.   Next meeting is TBA via email.
