and ex offico members: Bill Anderson, Steve Burks, Sandy Karstens.

Agenda:

  1. Minutes of the last meeting (9 Dec 2003), previously distributed, were deemed to be accepted.  Joe McLaughlin was appointed scribe for today’s meeting.

  1. Discussion of the Jeanmarie renovations

Prof Jo Ellis-Monaghan joined the meeting to offer feedback from some of her Math colleagues on the proposed classroom renovations planned for Jeanmarie Hall and presented to the Committee at its Oct and Dec 2003 meetings by Bill Anderson.  Bill indicated that he welcomed ideas and was willing to meet with groups, having already met with several. He also reviewed the planning and proposed construction schedules and indicated that he would keep Ed Tech posted, hoping the committee might vet with him various classroom models for Jeanmarie.  Most of the meeting was devoted to a wide-ranging discussion of this subject.

  1. Discussion of TRC brownbag luncheon

Mark reported TRC is agreeable to a proposed brownbag lunch at which faculty conversant with technology in the classroom could share some of the acquired knowledge with other faculty.  Thursdays at noon seem to be the best time.  The specific date will be determined at next week’s EdTech meeting.

  1. Discussion of SMC’s possible involvement with Vermont HITEC

Mike distributed a proposal prepared by Gerald Ghazi (Vermont Healthcare Information Technology Education Center – Vermont HITEC) for the creation of a ‘Vermont Information Technology Partnership’ in which Saint Michael’s College might participate by way of student internships.  After brief discussion, it was suggested that Mike might discuss the proposal with Joanne LaBrake (SMC Internship Coordinator) and the Math and Computer Science departments.

  1. Other business

Sandy reported that the EdTech webpage is up and welcomed idea of improvements.

Mike reminded all of the importance of faculty completing the IT survey distributed last month by Sue Breeyear.

  1. Next meeting

The committee is scheduled to meet next on Thursday, 12 February 2004, at 4:00 pm in JEM 149G.
