
St. Michael's College has a fine collection of twelve artist books.
Many of the books were donated to the College as part of the Ackerman Collection, while others were bought by the school.
Book Arts History
Artist books are works of art in book form, generally published in limited editions. These books can be formed in numerous ways including loose pages in a sleeve or box, or even bound. Many of these books include text, stories or poems that are visually described through the beautiful corresponding art works. This form of art is has become more popular since the 20th century.
There are numerous businesses and organizations created to keep the form of book arts alive.
The London Artists Book Fair is an annual event in England that allows artists to show off and sell their books. Booklyn is an artist-run, non-profit organization in Brooklyn, NY that seeks to promote artist books as an art form and educational resource.
