Facilities & Major Equipment

The Chemistry Department at Saint Michael's College is located in Cheray Science Hall. Expanded and remodeled in 1993, Cheray provides the up-to-date teaching and research facilities necessary to carry out modern scientific education.

Facilities include: faculty offices, two classrooms, one instrumental and three teaching laboratories, a computer lab, and four research laboratories.

The Chemistry Department has made a sustained effort to acquire modern instrumentation and technology. Our students have ready access to a variety of equipment (see below) as part of laboratory coursework and undergraduate research. SciFinder Scholar is also available for students' use in all computer laboratories on campus.  The small size of the department assures that each student gets "hands-on" experience using various instruments as well as an opportunity to perform meaningful analysis of the data provided.

Our students have access to the following equipment:

Varian Gemini 2000 300-MHz Nuclear Magnetic Resonance

Hewlett Packard 6890 GC - 5973 MSD (Gas Chromatograph-Mass Spectrometer)

Cary-14 UV/Vis Spectrophotometer
