two scenarios. Groups 1 and 2 discuss Scenario A. Groups 3 and 4
discuss Scenario B.
SCENARIO A—the all American teams
You are a manager in a medium-size corporation. You
supervise ten people who have worked together for two years. You have hired
a new person who will be joining your department next month. She is
Group 1: Japanese and the
only member of your staff who is from the Japan.

2: Latin-American and the only member of your staff who is from
Latin America.
You want to make her transition into your department
smooth and you are eager to socialize her into the office culture.
- What must you consider, if anything, as you prepare
for this new employee’s arrival?
- How can you help the office staff work and interact
with this new employee?
- What resources are available to your new employee as
she begins her work in your department?
SCENARIO B—international teams
You are a manager in a medium-size corporation. You

The rest of your staff is Japanese and Korean.

4: An American and the only member of your staff who is from the
U.S.
