Geography Game

Puzzle of the United States
(Pat LaRose)

Puzzle: 100 pieces

The object of the game is to add your pieces to the puzzle quickly and accurately.  The team with the fewest pieces left over at  the end of the game wins.

ROUND ONE: 1-minute turns

  1. The class is divided  into two teams--A and B.

  2. Each team receives half the puzzle pieces (50).

  3. The teams have five (5) minutes to look over their pile of pieces.

  4. Team A goes first.  Team B gives A five pieces of the puzzle (perhaps the most difficult ones).  Team A has one minute to put the pieces in the right place.  Any pieces not used are put into a separate pile.

  5. Team B repeats Step (4).

  6. Steps (4) and (5) are repeated until each team has half its original pile.

ROUND TWO: 30-second turns
Steps (4) and (5) are repeated but only 30 seconds are allowed per turn.

ROUND THREE: SUDDEN DEATH

At the end, if both teams have the same number of pieces in their separate pile, one team member from each team (chosen by the team) will have 30 seconds to place the remaining pieces.  The team with the fewest remaining pieces wins.

Geography: Getting to Know You

  1. Standing in front of the map of the WORLD, students will identify their native country and city and share one interesting fact about it.

  2. Standing in front of the map of the United States, students will locate the state they would most like to live in and explain why.
