American
colleges/universities publish a Schedule of Courses from which students select
the courses each semester. This publication is not easy to read and includes
many abbreviations and acronyms. In this exercise you will learn how to read
the Schedule of Courses of a U.S. college/university and select courses that you
will visit/observe.
DIRECTIONS: Obtain the following sources of information from the Saint Michael's College Schedule of Courses for the current semester:
Important note: Adjunct (temporary) faculty will not be listed in this directory. If you cannot find a professor, type the name of the department in the search box and look for a listing of faculty or the departmental secretary, who can give you the contact information for adjunct faculty.
STEP 1: In the SMC Schedule of Courses, find the following information and put it in the table below.
Underline 3 courses for which you would like to observe one class. The course must be held during our IEP class time (MWF or T TH or in the evening. The undergraduate classes you observe MUST NOT conflict with any other IEP class.
STEP 2: Go to the SMC Employee Directory to search for the professor’s office, telephone number, and email address. In the boxes provided, type in the professor’s first name and last name. In the Department/Office box, keep “All” or select the appropriate department. Please see the example done for you
