What has your
Saint Michael's experience, particularly your experience
as a biology major, been like?
My experience at Saint Michael’s College has allowed me to find my
niche in life. I entered into college as an “exploratory first-year,”
and fell in love with biology shortly after my first semester. The
biology department welcomed me in and I began to absorb all that I
could from the courses available. I also had the opportunity to
conduct my own summer research under Professor Mark Lubkowitz. I spent
about a year and half studying the molecular mechanisms of rice
seeds during germination. From my class and laboratory work at Saint
Mike's, I have received a wealth of knowledge that I will carry with
me as I enter into the next phase of my life.
What additional activities did you pursue related to the biology
I have completed two semesters of senior honors research, and have
written a thesis on my work. Last year I presented my research
during the school-wide symposium. Also, I am traveling to St. Louis
Missouri in October to attend the Ninth International Plant Molecular
Biology conference. Finally, I have spent some time volunteering in
the pediatrics unit at Fletcher Allen Hospital.
What are your post-graduate plans?
I will be working towards becoming a certified physicians assistant.
