Special thanks to Angela Irvine (Director of
Foundation Relations and Sponsored Programs) and Karen Talentino
(Vice President of Academic Affairs) for acquiring a grant from the
Alden Foundation to renovate parts of Cheray Science Hall. Lab room
301 is now outfitted with new benches, whiteboards, and computer and
projection capability. This will certainly enhance our growing
Biology program (now up to almost 200 students) and also serve the
new Environmental Studies major organized by Professor Valerie
Banschbach. This new program already has 35 majors and 20 minors in
just its first year. The renovation also included constructing a
new office for Professor Declan McCabe by carving out a section of
what used to be the 301A prep room. Professor McCabes former
office (room 314) is now subdivided and shared by administrative
assistant Denise Brault and Laura Benton, the Biology Departments
new Lab Coordinator/Instructor. Laura brings a strong background in
microbiology and genetics to our department, and will be assisting
with lab preparation and teaching in these areas.
