Introduction to the Course

Course Goals

This ALC will follow closely the topics covered by the International Finance course, giving students the opportunity to:

learn the French vocabulary pertaining to international finance;

study the cultural, procedural and legal differences between French-speaking countries (particularly France and Canada-Québec) and the United States concerning topics of the business course;

These will be reached in particular through conversation and discussion of articles and Web sources.

Texts. There is no single text for the course. Copied materials will be distributed in class, through this Web site or via e-mail.

Activities.

Class discussion, usually based on a reading.

Supplementary readings (especially in Le Devoir and Les Affaires).

Use of the Web (for readings, essential vocabulary, exchange rates, francophone multinationals, etc.).

Preparation for class discussion, often involving writing some of your reactions.

In-class reports on a reading or a Web activity.

Grading. Your final grade will be based on:

Class participation, including attendance, discussion, and preparation (as indicated by your contributions to the discussion and your written preparations) – 75%

Oral reports – 25%
