How to get there, what to do

Tips for doing the tasks

Christmas Traditions

The tasks outlined on the pages in French will all be done in a Web site entitled Traditions de Noël en France et au Québec. When you decide to go there, simply click on the title in blue.

The first page you’ll see (la page d’accueil) has a Christmas tree, with different topics listed on it. Click on any one, and you’ll go to that topic. You’ll find that the lower branches and the trunk have the most links to the broadest number of topics, and that starting there will eventually lead you to the topic you’re hunting for.

The links (text highlighted in red or green) take you to other pages on those topics. Simply click on one of them, and you will go to that page. It, as well, has links to yet more pages. This site is really a labyrinth of connected pages, so follow links liberally, and use the "Back" and "Forward" commands or arrows at the upper left of your tool bar to move back and forth through the pages. Most of your pages will not show up at first. You’ll have to follow some likely-looking links to get to them.

Enjoy the pages you go through before finding the ones related to your tasks! There are some wonderful illustrations that are worth spending some time on.

You may want to return to the site before you finish your task, so be sure to make a Bookmark or Favorite for it.

Tips for doing the tasks

There are many words and verb forms you don’t know. Don’t panic! There are also lots of cognates, and you’ll recognize the verbs most of the time, even though you might not recognize the forms. Don’t run to a dictionary. With what you know and the attached lexicon, you should be able to get enough meaning out of what you find to perform the tasks assigned to you.

For most tasks, you have a choice of information to present and explain. This will enable you to skip over things you don’t understand and to choose those you do.

When writing down your information and explanation, try to do it as simply as possible, using words we will all understand. Remember, you are going to talk about your task in class, and you want to share your information with your classmates.
