FR109 -- First Web Task

Return to Syllabus | Return to main course page

-- You’ve just learned how to say where you go and the vocabulary for lots of good destinations. Let’s take a walk on the virtual Champs-Elysées and on the campus of Laval University.

-- Don’t forget to bring your textbook to your computer session. The vocabulary and grammar in Chapter 5 will help you. As you write your sentences, try using some prepositions, and d’abord, ensuite, and enfin.

La première promenade -- les Champs-Elysées virtuels

Just click on the words above, and you'll go to the Champs-Elysées, Once you're there, you can use the scroll bar to the right of your screen to travel up and down it. Some links are not appropriate to the tasks, but feel free to visit any of them. Simply click on the name, number, drawing or photograph (it’s a link if your arrow changes into a pointing hand), and you’ll be taken to that page..

[Remember: if you need to check on these instructions as you work, just use the back arrow on the toolbar at the top left of your screen. Use the forward arrow to get back to the place you were exploring.]

Choose three of the following places. For each one:

  1. Tell where you are going (Je vais à la pharmacie Santé. Mon petit ami et moi allons au cabaret.)
  2. Tell what you see, do or find there. If a "good" word or expression is one you don’t know how to put into a sentence in French, just write down the word or expression. If you can, try to use it in a sentence (Il y a des aspirines. Nous regardons le spectacle.)
  3. Places to choose from:
  • Crédit Lyonnais ou Citibank (des banques)
  • le kiosque à journaux (and its link to «Dans les salles de cinéma»)
  • le bureau de Change (different task 2 – tell how many $ you have and how many French francs they’re worth.)
  • Le Lido de Paris
  • le café-restaurant (red awnings in photo)
  • Décathlon (un magasin d’accessoires du sport)
  • la galerie d’art

La deuxième promenade -- l’université Laval

Oops! If you tried the link before, you had no luck, n'est-ce pas? Try again. They've just changed the site, and the maps are not yet interactive, so I'm sending you to a list of the buildings on campus. Click on a few to browse. You can't do a "promenade," but there's a photo of each building and descriptions of what they contain -- some with their own links.

Thanks to Matt for letting me know so soon!

[Click on the words above to get to the campus. The map of the university is interactive. Click on any building, and you’ll see a list of the offices and services housed in it, or you’ll see its function. Buildings here are referred to as pavillons (m.).]

Choose three buildings on the campus. For each one:

  1. Tell where you are going (Je vais au pavillon Lévesque.).
  2. Tell something interesting you find or do there. If a "good" word or expression is one you don’t know how to put into a sentence in French, just write down the word or expression. If you can, try to use it in a sentence (Je visite la résidence des étudiants. Nous allons au bureau du directeur de l’Ecole des Langues. J'aime jouer au basket.). The word faculté (f.) usually means "department." Ecole, depending on the context, is either "school" or "college."

Amusez-vous bien!
