Irun Agogo - Bride

Carved figures of kneeling female figures holding offering bowls in the shape of a cock, are called Olumeye "one who knows honor".  The hairstyle, known as irun agogo, indicates that she is a recent bride or, as a priestess, she is married to an orisha, a diety in the Yoruba pantheon.7 Yoruba: Sculpture of West Africa. Fagg, Pemberton, Holcombe, Eds. 1982. p135
