For some women marriage means they will find themselves in a polygamous relationship.  In this system usually all the wives live with the husband, though they each have separate rooms.  They cook for themselves and their children and take turns cooking for the husband.  Women have different ranking depending on how long they've been married.  More senior wives will often assign the tasks of the house to more junior wives.  Many women defend this system claiming that it gives them more free time and freedom since domestic responsibilities are shared.  This system does create a large amount of competition among the wives.  Ideally the husband is supposed to share everything with all his wives and children equally, but this does not always occur (Drewal 188).
