Defending female circumcision

Female circumcision as a Human Rights Violation

Resources

The topic of female circumcision is a difficult thing to approach.  It is so graphic that it is not an easy thing to discuss or even read about.  Still, it is a tradition that has been around for thousands of years as an important part of many people’s culture.  When approaching the culture of others one receives a lot of resistance.  Often one’s opinions and beliefs are not welcome.  Despite these complications, female circumcision is still widely debated as a human rights violation.  Many respected groups, including Amnesty International and the World Health Organization (WHO), have begun active campaigns to deal with the problem while still acknowledging the need to respect cultural differences.
