The Evaluating Team’s Visit

April 12-14, 2010

The final version of the reaccreditation Self-Study is available on the 2010 NEASC web site: http://academics.smcvt.edu/neasc2010/

Now that the College has mailed the Self-Study and required data forms to the evaluating team, what next?

Saint Michael's Self-Study was mailed to the members of the evaluation team, as required, 6 weeks prior to their arrival on campus. The packet sent to each member contained a hard copy of the Self-Study narrative and required data forms as well as a copy of the College’s Factbook. The packet also contained a flash drive with electronic versions of the narrative, data forms, appendices, relevant documents and exhibits.

The next steps in the reaccreditation process are to prepare for the evaluation team’s visit on campus. This involves making more than 100 documents available in one “virtual” and two “actual” Team Resource Rooms. It also involves organizing the team’s schedule as well as coordinating administrative and technical support for the team during the visit.

The evaluating team’s goal is to “validate” the College’s Self-Study

The NEASC evaluators are asked to evaluate how well Saint Michael's College meets the Standards set by the higher education community (through NEASC) for colleges and universities.  The team’s primary goal is to “validate” or confirm the information that the Self-Study presents and that emerges from the documents made available in the resource room. The team will speak to and ask questions of members of the community individually as well as in open meetings with faculty, staff, and students.

Prior to the team’s departure, the team chair will present a preliminary report to the entire community, on Wednesday, April 14, at 11 a.m.

A Note of Thanks

I would like to thank all the members of the Self Study Steering Committee as well as those of the subcommittees whose work on the 11 Standards provided the foundation for the Self-Study narrative. I also thank Leslie Turner, Cynthia Kelley, Becky Danaher, and Sarah Gabriele for their various technological contributions to the Self-Study. Special thanks go to Liz Inness-Brown, Karen Talentino, John Payne, and Lisa Powlison for their editing and proof-reading skills, and to John Kulhowvick for all the data he diligently provided.

I express my deepest appreciation to Meg Provost for her invaluable administrative support and especially for her attention to detail and tireless pursuit of perfection throughout the entire Self-Study Process.
